Cartha Lou Hollifield Nicholson, 84, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Brooks-Howell Home.
A native of McDowell Co., she was a daughter of the late Johnson and Margaret Lowery Hollifield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Z.A. "Nick" Nicholson, who died in 1986; and her sisters, Mary Lee Hollifield, and Lillie Frisbee.
Mrs. Nicholson was member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She taught the Cartwright Class and hosted a group of senior citizens every week at the church. She also volunteered with the Western North Carolina Rescue Ministries for a number of years.
Mrs. Nicholson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Pete Hildebrand, of Asheville; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Lucinda Nicholson, of Burkes Garden, VA; sister, Vickie Patneaude, of Asheville; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mrs. Nicholson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Reverend In-Yong Lee officiating.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
