Cecil Burnette, 88, of Candler, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Burnette was a native of Blairsville, GA, and was a son of the late Roxie Burnette Rick. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of VFW Post 891. He was a retired Asheville police officer with 27 years service. He was an active member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Police, Harold C. Enloe Lodge No. 1. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edna Mashburn Burnette. The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip M. Hurst officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

I am so sorry for your loss.I remember the good times we had,it seems a million years ago,but I have thought of you many times over the years & wondered how & where you were.   3. Edna, I remember Cecil from my years as a Buncombe County Magistrate. He was always an excellent policeman and a gentleman. We are never ready to lose our loved ones and the only comfort comes from our Faith in the Lord and the manifested concern of friends who care. We do haope in some small way it does help to know others do care. Mary

  5. I was sorry to hear Cecil had passed away.I worked with Cecil from 1966 until he retired, he was a fine officer and gentleman. I liked him a lot. I send my regards and deep regret to his family. May God bless you and give you comfort.
