Charles "Chuck" Bernard Brockmeier, 71, of Candler, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the Haywood House in Canton.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late William and Myrtle McFalls Brockmeier. He was also preceded in death by his sister Thelma, and by brothers Ed and Richard.
Mr. Brockmeier was a graduate of Erwin High School. He was a running back for the Asheville Bears Football Team, and he was scouted by the LA Raiders.
Surviving are his soul mate, Dean Jones; son, Chris Brockmeier (Angie) of SC; daughter, Tonya Kent; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Jean, and brothers Terry and Bob.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leon Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Dean I am so sorry to hear about Chuck,I do hope you are doing well during this sad time jus know God has him and no more pain.you and your family are in my prayers.i. have not seen you guys in years but have a lot of memories back in the day ,Chuck was a good person with a big heart……..take care of you that is what Chuck would want and you will smile again at every memory every day

SO VERY SAD TO LEARN OF CHUCK’S PASSING THIS WEEK ! ‘ ‘ QUITE A WHILE SINCE I HAD SEEN CHUCKBUT HIS GOOD FRIEND GARY RICE TOLD US AT BREAKFAST A WHILE BACK THAT CHUCK WAS DEALING WITH SOME SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES !!! ‘ ‘ HAD THE PLEASURE OF PLAYING WITH CHUCK AND AGAINST CHUCK … BACK IN THE DAY … AND HE WAS A FIESTY…FIERCE COMPETIOR WHO PLAYED HARD AND FAST !!! ‘ ‘ CHUCK WAS AN OUTSTANDING ATHLETE WHO I ADMIRED VERY MUCH !’ ‘ WE HAD ALOT OF GOOD TIMES IN SOFTBALL and RAG TAG FOOTBALL ! ‘ ‘ SURELY WISHED HE HAD PLAYED WITH US AT ERWIN HIGH BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIG PART OF OUR TEAM BACK THEN !!! ‘ ‘ MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO CHUCK’S FAMILY and MANY FRIENDS … AS HE WILL BE MISSED BY SO MANY ! ‘ ‘REST IN PEACE CHUCK … REST IN PEACE !!! ‘ … SINCERELY … Mackey McFee

the service was beautiful, singing was wonderful, and Leon message was one of the best I have heard. my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Chuck meant a lot to me. We played ball together. We ran around together. We used to go to Atlanta and watch the Braves play, quite often. I’m so sorry I missed the visitation and service because of my health, it wasn’t possible. Praying for the family.
