Charles Everett Smith

Charles Everett Smith, 89, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the CarePartners Solace Center. .
Born in Jackson County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late James Thomas Smith and Sophia Price Smith. He was married for 60 years to Peggy Shuler Smith, who died in 2016.
Mr. Smith served with the US Army Combat Engineers from 1953 - 1955, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He had been associated with Perry Alexander Construction Company for 32 years, starting as an equipment operator and retiring as General Superintendent, Vice-President and 50% Owner.
He was a life member of the VFW, a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446. He attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Surviving are his sister, Mary Joyce Stevens and his brother, Jack Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 4:00 p.m. at Addie Cemetery in Sylva.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
The family expresses their appreciation to Bill Carroll, Jim Heise and Rex Ballard (Honorary Pallbearers) for their friendship, love, care and support through the years.
Active pallbearers will be Eddie Smith, Jeff McElmurray, Miles Stevenson, Mike Fitzer, Bob Maier, Mike Cole and Andrew Novack.

So sorry to hear about Charles, One comforting thought is that he is going to be with his love Peggy again, my deepest sympathy goes out to the family.
