Charles Norman Saunders, Jr., 83, of Enka, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at a local hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Charles N. and LouEllen Myers Saunders, Sr. He was retired from American Enka Corp., a Navy Veteran of WWII, a graduate of Chef Cordon Bleu Cooking School, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Oak Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Helen Clark Saunders; a daughter, Norma Cochrane and her husband Julian of Arden; a son, Charles Saunders and his wife Debbie of Huntsville, AL; two sisters, Mary Kezziah of Greenwood, SC and Pauline Cooper of Canton; four grandchildren, Caitlen and Griffen Saunders, Tracy Lindsey and Jason Cochrane and one great-grandson, Michael Lindsey. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Kim Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday prior to the service.
