Charles Oscar Rice, 66, of Academy St., Marshall, died on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Rice was the son of the late Oscar “Junior” and Carrie Rayfield Rice. He was also preceded in death by his foster parents, aunt and uncle, Madeline and Frank Hooker. Charles loved to tinker with everything, especially lawnmowers. Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Brenda Meadows Rice; daughters, Paula Glenn and husband Richard, Lynn Pulliam and husband Eddie, Polly Valdez, Angela Fuller and husband William, Laura Capps and husband Justin Loupont, and Maddie Brown and husband Matthew; sons, Lewis Rice and wife Bonnie, Willy Rice and wife Tara, and Virgil Capps and wife Marcia; sister, Gloria Sprouse and husband Harold; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. A funeral service for Mr. Rice will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Vincent Price officiating.
