Resided in:
Asheville, NC
Charles Quitman Donaldson passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2016, after a heroic 15-year battle with cancer.
Mr. Donaldson was an outstanding artist/craftsman working primarily in glass, stone, and handcrafted paper. He was a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. He was an avid competitive surfer who won the title of East Coast Grand Master while in his 50s. He loved God will all his heart and loved spending time with brokenhearted and downcast people to share with them what God had done in his own life and would do for them too.
He was the son of Mark Charles Donaldson and Jesse Jean Simmons Donaldson of Downey, CA. He is survived by his wife Sheryl Donaldson (Asheville, NC), his four sons Jason Turney (Asheville, NC), Shyama
Donaldson (Jacksonville, FL), Mark Donaldson (Wilmington, NC), and Serge Donaldson (Asheville, NC), and one granddaughter Sloan Donaldson (Jacksonville, FL).
He will be missed by his family, many friends and neighbors.
Plans for a grand celebration of life service are underway for early 2017. Once plans are finalized we will let everyone know.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Divine Inheritance, 215 General JB Hood Drive, Franklin, TN 37069.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

I was privileged to spend many hours doing prayer counsel with Charlie over the years. He had an immense impact on the guys in the WCRM Discipleship program and was a great friend. I will miss him, as will many others. He was great artist, a real listener, and could share truth with love.
John and I send our deepest condolences to you, Sherry, Jason, Serge, Shyama and Mark, as well as to extended family and loved ones. Charles was a wonderful and righteous man. I’ve often said that of my Dad .. his nose was always in his Bible and he had an ethos about him that couldn’t be explained, but those who knew him knew it came only from the Lord. I think Charles is right up there with him when it comes to that. I wish I had taken the chance to thank him for all the prayers he lifted up for me and my family. He will be sorely missed, but is a brilliant light and beautiful presence in Heaven. Thank you, Father, that you gave me the privilege of knowing Charles.
So sorry to hear this. Wishing you peace for this season.
What a joy to have been blessed in knowing Charles and seeing the love of Jesus in him so clearly. His giftings and talent has touched many. His joy was so very contagious and we were blessed to know and love him. Sure he will be up there in Father God’s arms of love and will be interceding for all of us still here as we continue pursuing are destinies. May Abba Father’s love and comfort surround all your family’s aching hearts. You all will continue to be in our prayers.
Im so very sorry to hear of Charles’s passing. I knew Sheryl for several years thru The Oral Cancer Foundations online message board. Its never easy hearing of losing another good person to oral cancer. Its a horrible disease that has barbaric treatments with long recoveries. One day I can only hope this disease wont take anyone else. RIP Charles
Pat and I were so happy to know Charles and it was indeed unfortunate that our paths took us in different directions. His creativity was amazing, his personality was infectious. He was so much fun to be around. He will be sorely missed.
Sheryl and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Just seeing Charles’ picture made me smile and think, what a great guy he must have been. I hope many fond memories of your times together will sustain you until you are reunited in Heaven. I will keep you in my prayers.
Charles was a beautiful soul – and is now more beautiful than ever since crossing the threshold and into Eternal Love. Still remember our first conversation, the way our spirits felt a kindred touch. He was an artist by the Spirit. Mighty in love. Wow, 15 years battle!! I’m so sorry for your loss. May there be a celebration in 2017 that angels join with. My prayers for you, Sheryl and the children. The end of a long season, the dawn of a new day. May Papa’s touch be tender and full of new mercies.
Cheryl – so sorry for your loss. I can attest to Charlie’s beautiful artwork. He was blessed with a wonderful gift for art and for dealing with people. I’m sure he will be greatly missed. Loving thoughts and prayers to you.
Wishing you peace and rest this holiday season. Charles will be greatly missed.
Love you Cheryl
Charles was a sparkly fellow in the midst of all his trials and is now sparkly somewhere else.
The school is life. The lesson is love.
Charles got good grades and graduated with honors!
Charles was inspirational in many ways. He was a great in worshiping God with his bongo drums and with the many expressions in his art. He had a quiet yet strong way of showing his relationship with God. He was devoted to his wonderful wife and loved his children. Even though it brings sadness to know he has left this temporary world it is wonderful to know he is now free and and will live for eternity with God. Much love to Sheryl and all the family.
Sheryl and family, my deepest condolences. I’ve enjoyed Donald’s artwork in the psychology department for many years.

I wanted to express my deepest sympathies to the Donaldson family. I am so sorry for your loss. It’s no way to really describe the pain one feels when death overtakes a loved one. Feelings of sadness and grief can be overwhelming during this time of mourning. However, comfort from the scriptures can give you hope. John 5:28,29 speaks of the promise of the resurrection. That scripture says, ‘Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.’ What this can mean for your family is a real hope of being reunited with your dead loved ones.
Sheryl:

I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 25:8. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.
