Fletcher ~ Charles Richard Fox, 59, of 95 Williams Road, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, in a local Asheville hospital.

A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Fox was the husband of Emine Atlas Vural Fox and the son of Frances Matthews Fox of Asheville and the late Lon Richard Fox. Mr. Fox was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, and was a chief clerk for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He held membership in the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446 and the Oasis Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the NC Athletic Association, having served as a sports official and an athletic chairman for T.C. Roberson High School. Mr. Fox was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two sons, Christopher Omer Fox of Charlotte and Kenan Alan Fox of Wilmington, two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a brother, Lonnie Emory Fox of Adrian, Mich.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 12 noon in the Biltmore Baptist Church with Revs. Ryland Whitehorn and Carl Setterlind officiating. An interment will be held at 2 pm Monday in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Masonic services conducted by the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446. The lodge will open at 11 am.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

  7. My heart and mind are FILLED with fond, wonderful memories of Foxy–he was a great second dad and friend to our family. I am saddened that his family and this world has lost such a great man!     I’m so sorry about your dad. He was always so kind to me from the time we were kids until recently. Anytime he officiated any of my games, no matter how good or bad we were, he would always tell me that my kids played hard and that I was doing a good job. It sure meant a lot. Your mom and brother may not remember me but give them my condolences. Take care bud, I’ll be thinking about you.

  16. My thought and prayers are with you. Dickie was a great friend in high school, He, Donnie Hudson and I did lots of thing together even returning from the beach the night before starting our senior year. He is missed even when I neglected to keep in touch.

  19. Its hard to lose someone like Dick. He was always willing to help in any way he could. He will always be remembered for the help he gave some were big things and some were small but he was always willing.

  20. Many fond memories of Friday Nights ‘in the booth’ high above the field at T.C.R. with Charlie will always come to mind. He was a man who loved and supported his family and sports, and will truly be missed by the community as well as Atlas and the Boys. We express our deepest sympathy.
