Charlotte Fraser Shipley, 93, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 20, 2022.
Born April 14, 1929 in Cushing, OK to Beulah Randall Fraser and the Rev. Samuel Graham Fraser. She attended public schools in Cushing and in Oklahoma City. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The College of Wooster, Ohio and received an M.A. from Western Reserve University. Employment was with the League of Women Voters of Ohio and the World Politics Program of Cleveland. In 1955 she married George Shipley and together they had two sons and a marriage that lasted 61 years until George’s death. His work took them to Indiana, Wisconsin and then Chicago where they made a home in Hinsdale, IL for 20 years. When both sons finished high school Charlotte entered nursing school, became a registered nurse and had a satisfying career as a hospice nurse.
Retirement brought the Shipleys to Flat Rock where both played golf and became active in their community. Charlotte volunteered at Hospice of Henderson County and Interfaith Assistance Ministry. She was a past president of Chapter BF, PEO, and a devoted member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.
The Shipleys enjoyed travel and together visited all 50 states plus much of South America, Australia and New Zealand. Charlotte’s travels also took her to Europe, China, Japan, India, and Russia. The couple became enthusiastic residents of Carolina Village in 2004. Charlotte is survived by her beloved sons Graham (Mary Lee) of Charlotte, NC and Douglas of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Rachel, Andrew, Jesse, and Hannah Shipley and great-grandchildren Jaidyn and Jaliyah Payne. She is also survived by a sister, Carol Kincheloe (Sam) of Maryville, TN.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 28 at the First Congregational Church Of Hendersonville, 1735 Fifth Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739. Her family will greet friends at the church immediately following the service. Burial will be private.

Charlotte leaves an empty space in our lives. And she leaves a light in our hearts that will shine on forever….
Charlotte and George were our next door neighbors on Forest Road when we bought our first house in 1985. I was just doing my Christmas Cards and happened to see that Charlotte passed away. I am deeply saddened as we enjoyed a friendship of over 37 years even though we all moved away from Forest Road. Charlotte was such a bright light, and a gentle woman. She was one classy lady and I loved her, especially for her encouragement of me going back to school to become a nurse midwife after having five children of my own. To her family, I send my heartfelt condolences. I had just finished writing her a long letter to put in my Christmas card, but I am sure she has heard every word! May Charlotte rest in peace in the arms of Our Creator.
