Chaz Daniel Rhodes

Gerton- Born in Buncombe County and a lifelong resident of Henderson County, Chaz Daniel Rhodes, 37, of Gerton, died Thursday, March 7, 2024, at his home.

For several years, Chaz was a beloved luggage delivery driver at the Asheville airport, alongside his father. He eventually became owner/operator of Horizon Express Delivery, which served as the sole luggage delivery service for the airport. With a mind of his own, Chaz was known for being bright, friendly, and endlessly giving to all of those he cared about. From an early age, he would carry on a conversation with just about anyone he met, adult or child, and he would give the shirt off his back to help someone else in need. He loved to make other people laugh, and he was an avid animal lover and foodie. As a young adult, he had a passion and an innate talent for glass blowing. As a kid, he loved to play baseball, and he was great at it. When he was just 12 years old, he also hit a hole-in-one at Lake Lure Golf Course, witnessed by his father and his father’s friends. Some of his favorite childhood memories included Christmastime, adventures with his cousins, snowboarding with his father and his friends, riding four wheelers around Gerton, beach vacations to Garden City Beach, South Carolina, and visits to Dollywood Theme Park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Chaz is survived by his mother, Sharon Ballard Rhodes, and father, Arthur Lee Rhodes, of Gerton; sister, Anna Rhodes Thompson and her husband Edward, of Wake Forest; uncle, Thomas Mitchell Ballard, of Morganton; uncle, Joseph Christopher Ballard, of Arden; uncle, Richard Scott Ballard and his wife Tina, of Chuckey, Tennessee; aunt, Joy Rhodes Jones, of Flat Rock; aunt, Sharon Kay Reese, of Hendersonville; as well as several cousins and a niece. He also loved his girlfriend, Jennifer Denise Hargrove, of Canton, very much. They were inseparable in the final years of his life.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1056 Riceville Road, Asheville, 28805, officiated by Rev. Richard Scott Ballard, Rev. Terry Duckworth and Rev. Donald Freeman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery alongside Chaz’s grandparents, James Everett Ballard and Billie Redmon Ballard, whom he adored. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM.
