Vivian Christine Ellenburg Powell, 66, of Pendergrass, GA, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019.
A native of Asheville, Christine was a daughter of the late Jerome "J.T." and Mary Sue Cummings Ellenburg. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Sharpe.
Mrs. Powell worked as a manager for the Enka Lake Club, and more recently worked for Togar Rugs. She was active with the Girl Scouts since 1978; her first Troop was Troop 20.
Surviving are her husband, Charles David Powell; daughter, April Powell; son, David Powell (Logan); grandchildren, Justyn Chivers, Zachary Powell, and Amber Powell; several nieces and nephews, including Michelle Buckner and Stephanie Sharpe-Stevens; and brother-in-law, Earl Sharpe.
Funeral services for Mrs. Powell will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Penland officiating.
Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Oh Chris, I wish I could talk to you one more time You took me into your family as you would a sister. I hate I did not come to see you in the hospital but expected to come see you in Rehab. I will miss your kind, generous sweet personality.

David, April, Lil Dave – I am so very sorry to hear of Chris’ passing. I have many many fond memories of her from the summers of my teenage years. I have no idea what we lifeguards would have done without her all those summers. We were a bunch of teenagers without a clue and she was so patient and supportive, helping us along the way. She was such a fantastic person with a heart of gold. I will remember her always and cherish the fond memories. So very very sorry for your immense lost. The world was a much better place for having Chris in it.
So sorry to hear about Christine. I never got to meet her, but I met her Mom and Dad, several years ago when they came to the Ellenburg Reunion in Greeneville, Tennessee. My Grandfather and J.T. were 1st cousins.
