In 1969 he was drafted by the U.S Army and went to Vietnam. He was awarded several medals for his service. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jo Worley, Judy Fortner (Walter), and Wilma Barnes (Bobby); brothers, David Roberts (Juanita) and Ricky Roberts; and several nieces and nephews.
We would like to express our thanks to the many people who have taken care of Clarence. The medical staff at the VA Hospital were excellent, they were all compassionate and caring. We would especially like to thank Sarah Steiner, his doctor who gave him such excellent care that went beyond anything you would expect from a doctor. She not only gave him medical care, she genuinely showed him love. We also thank his home care people, Kaitlyn Norton and Darlene Luyckx for their care. They brightened his day every time they came especially when they brought Kollins with them.
A celebration of Clarence’s life will be held at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC on Wednesday, November 27 with visitation at 11:30 a.m. followed by a service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC. The service will be conducted by Rev. Jerry Jamerson which Clarence referred to as “My Friend” and “My Pastor”. We would like to extend our thanks to Jerry for the many visits he paid to Clarence and all of the tomato biscuits he brought for them to enjoy together.
If you would like to do something in Clarence’s memory, donation to Shriners Hospital which he supported or flowers are suggestions.
“I got to know Clarence for a brief time , while serving him during his time at the VA. I told him how I enjoyed coming into his presence, because the room seemed to light up with his smile. I told him that if I ever live to be his age, that I want to be like him, like Jesus. I hope his family knows what a treasure he is.
You made an impression on me Sir. Be less like myself, and more like Jesus.
You will be missed.”
Till we meet again… You will be missed ❤️ I enjoyed taking care of you , fellowship about our Lord and Savior, and prayers together 💞
