Claude “EARL” Vess, Sr. passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 12, 2022. A man who loved his family fiercely is survived by his wife, Saundra Ballard Vess; a son, Earl Vess Jr.(Rebecca); two daughters, Sabrina West (Mike) & Renee Brown (Allan); and his brother, James T. Vess (Brenda). His 13 Grandchildren, 5 Great grandchildren, and his beloved dog Bruno will miss his jokes, laughter, and protective loving charm. Mr. Vess served his country in the US Air Force and then became a Machinist & Mechanic who owned Vess Garage prior to retiring. “Earl” will be greatly missed by all who knew his light he brought to a room!

The funeral service is now scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, at 12:30 p.m. at Swannanoa Valley Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor David Dimsdale will officiate. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m. for family and friends. A burial will follow the funeral service at WNC State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.

Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
