The Reverend Clem Oliver Gunn, Jr. of Hendersonville, NC and formerly of Danvers, MA, died Friday, July 17, 2009. A native of Fort Barrancas, FL, he was born April 25, 1922 to the late Clem and Hazel Gunn and was raised in Georgia. Clem was a veteran of WWII, serving three and a half years with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater. He graduated Georgia Tech in 1948 and worked for General Electric for thirty years. An avid sailor, Clem competed in several long distance ocean races. After his retirement, Clem attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge, MA. He was ordained as a Priest in Newfoundland, Canada and served parishes there and at Saint Andrews in Canton, NC, Saint Georges in Asheville, NC and Calvary Episcopal in Fletcher, NC. Clem is survived by his wife, Lucy; one sister, Beverly Patrick, of Atlanta, GA; three daughters, Mary Seger and her husband, Bill, of New Ipswich, NH, Beverly Rossman and her husband, Howard of Northbrook, IL and Virginia Coulson and her husband Greg of Danvers, MA; two sons, David Gunn and his wife, Nancy, of Richmond, VA and Kirk Gunn and his wife, Jan, of Annapolis, MD as well as eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC officiated by the Reverend Victor Mansfield. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, 44 Cherry Street, Danvers, MA 01923 or to Calvary Episcopal Church, PO Box 187, Fletcher, NC 28732.
