Colleen Frances (McCreary) Saunders, 87, of Asheville, North Carolina, entered into eternal peace with our Lord Jesus on March 29, 2022.

Born June 15, 1934, in Grand Forks, ND, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Pearl McCreary, and the wife of the late Donald Saunders, who died in 2004. They had moved and retired to Asheville, North Carolina in the 1980s. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Theresa Saunders, and a son-in-law, Billy Joe Pressley.

Colleen made her earthly transition, where she was loved and adored by residents and staff alike, from her second home, Silverbell Homestead, located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

Colleen had continually and faithfully served her Lord her entire life and so loved her church family at The Heights City Church in Arden. She was also a member of Women’s Aglow.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Colleen is survived by her son Mark Saunders and wife JoAnn of Minnesota; daughter Suzanne Wakefield and husband Jesse of Arden; son Todd Saunders and wife Gina of Cashiers; daughter Heather Lee and husband Bill of Fletcher; and her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four siblings: Jackie Shaskey, Greg McCreary, Suzanne Sorenson, and Terry Ann Dobesh; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Colleen’s name may be made to Silverbell Homestead, 765 Cane Creek Rd., Fletcher, NC 28732.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
