Colleen Sayles Meadows passed away after an extended illness at CarePartners Solace Center Monday, May 26, 2014 surrounded by her immediate family and special niece. She was the loving wife of sixty-nine years of Harold L. Meadows, mother of two sons, Harold Eugene "Gene" Meadows and wife Nancy of Arden, Larry R. Meadows of Asheville, daughters Darlene M. Vaillancourt and husband Bob of Asheville, and Betty M. Fair and husband Mark of Leicester, NC. She is also survived by one sister, Peggy S. Sharp of Asheville, and two brothers, Aubrey Sayles of Leicester, NC and Perry Sayles of Granite Falls, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zebulon and Eckford Williams Sayles, brothers Hollis, Graham, William, and Bobby Sayles, and sisters Charlotte S. Ledford, June S. Hugg, Doris S. McMahan, and Mary Jo S. Hermon. Mrs. Meadows had nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She was a lifetime member of Georgetown Missionary Baptist Church. A reception of friends will be held on Thursday May 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. A private memorial service for her family will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday May 30 at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC, with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating, with a private burial following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Georgetown Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 448, Leicester, NC 28748, or to Victory Baptist Church Meals for the Homebound, 80 Olivette Rd., Asheville, NC 28804, and/or to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. The family wishes to thank Jan Wilson, caregiver, for her special love and care to their mother and to CarePartners Hospice and the final six days to the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center Staff who made the end much easier for her.
