Collett Miller died on June 9, 2023, at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville after a long illness. He was born in Asheville on February 2, 1941, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a dear friend to many.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eva and Collett L. Miller. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Geraldine Robinson Miller, of Asheville. Other surviving relatives are his daughter, Karen Rodriguez, of Oakton, Virginia; son-in-law, Hugo Rodriguez, Jr., of Oakton, Virginia; granddaughters, Alison Rodriguez, of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Annalia Rodriguez, of Oakton, Virginia; sister, Miriam Porter of Swannanoa; and sister-in-law, Darlene, and brother-in-law, Bert Abrams, of Leicester.
He graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1959 where he played on the tennis team. For 43 years he worked for the American Enka Company, and there he met Geraldine and made life-long friends. He served as a board member of the Enka Credit Union for several years.
Collett was always up for an adventure, traveling to Honduras, Mexico, and Washington, D.C. to visit Karen and her family. He adored his granddaughters and was thrilled to go down Sliding Rock with them well into his 60s and 70s.
He had lived in Morningside Park since 1961 and cherished his friendships with neighbors and their families. In earlier years, he played basketball, football, and tennis, and went water skiing on Lake James with his close West Asheville buddies who meant so much to him. Collett was an avid Asheville High football fan, regularly gathering with friends at the stadium for home games or in each others’ homes to listen to broadcasts of away games. He was a passionate golfer and treasured his outings with his golfing friends. They played locally and took weekend trips to play throughout the Southeast, providing memories he talked about for years.
Collett and Geraldine loved tending their farm on South Turkey Creek. He built and maintained bluebird houses and enjoyed spotting wildlife on the property. In recent years, he and Geraldine could be found having a picnic at their favorite spot on a hill overlooking the farm.
The family will host a visitation for friends and family to remember Collett and celebrate the joy he brought to all of us on Saturday, July 22, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home, 1401 Patton Avenue, West Asheville.

First met the Millers when I was about 12. They were sitting in their front yard and I asked my dad why were they doing that. He said they were waiting for their furniture. That was the beginning of our friendship of touch football and basketball games in the street and later weekly golf somewhere in NC and 3 favorites in TN. Don and Gary along with Roy and Larry formed our partners for years.
We also enjoyed eating out after golf on our way home. I recalled a time Collett had sold an older Corvette give to him by Geraldine’s brother Bobby and he wanted to treat us to lunch so we stopped by his favorite Burger King. I was the last to order so the lady winked at me and pointed to the most expensive $10 burger! I winked back. As we were finishing up Collett was looking at the bill and said ” who got a $10 burger”. Roy spoke up and said ” I just got a hotdog” we all just died laughing” what fun.
Collett and buddies will be missed when the other guys can go off to some favorite golf courses. We will miss you, friend.
Collett, and I worked together for 30+ years. He was a well liked individual, and will be greatly missed, especially at the quarterly American Enka/BASF breakfast.
RIP Miller.
Sorry for your loss Collette was a very close friend of mine we worked together he was a true friend he will be missed.
So sorry Geraldine for the loss of our buddy. Collett was loved by everyone. What a shock it was to all of us.He was one of the most highly thought of men in all of Asheville. He was so meek and mild in a great way. He loved to watch Asheville High School football with his friends of which I was so proud to be counted one of. We would eat at Little Pigs before home games many times. We look forward to spending eternity in Heaven with Collett.
Geraldine and family. My deepest sympathies. I have fond memories of Collett from being with you at sears.
Dear Karen, we are so very sorry for your Dad’s passing. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies as our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Though your hearts must hold deep sadness at the loss of your father, we pray that the blessings of life that you shared and the love he gave, will always be a part of you. May the amazing memories be a great source of comfort. Keeping you close in caring thoughts and sending virtual hugs, Lindsey Herrity & Family along with the whole DOS Team <3.
FROM ALL OF THE CLASS OF 1959 OF LEE EDWARDS HIGH SCHOOL………..WE SEND LOVE. WE WILL CERTAINLY MISS HIS LOVING SUPPORT OF OUR GREAT CLASS OF 1959…………..THE LAST CLASS OF THE ’50’s. I REMEMBER SEEING HIM ARRIVE AT THE REUNION THAT WAS HELD AT THE FIREMEN’S CAMP. I WAS AT THE ENTRANCE DOING “STUFF” AND HE DROVE IN………….”YOU DON’T KNOW WHO I AM, DO YOU?” HE ASKED………..
It’s hard to pick just one memory, but I would like to share this. When Collett and Geri wanted to buy their house, he asked daddy to co-sign for them. It made mom and daddy so happy to be able to do this. I will miss you, my brother.
