Crate P. Brown, 88, of Lindsay Road, Candler, NC, passed away on Tuesday January, 30, 2001 in a local nursing facility. He was born in Haywood County to the late Manson and Jennie Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Bee Brown; brother, Hugh and sisters, Valerie and Glennia. He was a former employee of American Enka Corporation and upon his return from WW II he operated a furniture store. During WW II he served as a first sergeant in a bomb disposal unit in Italy and North Africa. He was a member of the VFW Post #00891. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Frizsell; sister, Mrs. Lula Wix both of Asheville; nieces, Mrs. Margaret Roberts of Asheville, Reverend Mary Caldwell and Kathryn Long and nephew William Lee Long all of Candler. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Reverend Mary Caldwell officiating. His family will receive friends 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue.

  1. I have fond memories of Crate and Bee. My aunt was Dee Gardner. I am Bob & Mildred Gardner’s daughter. I showed mom the obit, as I knew she would want to know of Crate passing. We are so sorry!
