C.V. Parker

c.v. parker
Asheville – Clarence V. Parker, better known simply as Parker, went to be with the Lord on April 15th following a lengthy illness. A native of Pisgah Forest, he was the son the late Herman O. and Nettie Corn Parker. He was a 1959 graduate of Clemson University. Having attended college on a football scholarship, he remained an avid, lifelong Tiger fan. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict as a military policeman. He carried his law enforcement service to Buncombe County, where he was an Auxiliary Deputy for 30 plus years – a familiar face at Enka High sporting events. He began his career of teaching in Seneca, South Carolina where he taught for 3 years before his love of the mountains brought him home. He then taught Vocational Agriculture at Enka High for 33 years, retiring in 1995. He was a dedicated member of Enka Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in a number of capacities from property committee to youth ministries. Parker is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ann Parris Parker, a son, Michael Parker of Candler, a daughter, Lynn Ferguson of Enka, and a brother, Fred Parker of Pisgah Forest. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Russell and Reva Ferguson, Jeremy, Emily and Justin Parker, and 2 great grandchildren, Haley and Kaden Ferguson. Lastly, he is survived by a countless number of former Enka High students whose lives have been deeply influenced by his commitment to education. Services will be held at Mount Moriah Wesleyan Church, 1 Fairmont Rd, in Candler on Saturday April 20 at 4pm with a life memorial fellowship immediately following. Please be prepared to share your favorite memory of Parker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Care Partners Hospice Foundation at PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Their care and compassion during this difficult time have been so greatly appreciated. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is serving the Parker family.

  6. Mr Parker was not only a great teacher but a mentor to so many of his students. He probably never knew just how many lives that he touched. Not only did he teach but he also drove the bus. He used to get the biggest kick out of watching my little Eskimo Spitz dogs run inside the fenced yard to meet the school bus – it was an even bigger laugh for him if they were wet and muddy because I could never get past them without at least one of them jumping all over me. I can still hear him laughing. Thanks for the memories C.V. – you will be missed so much! My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May God pour out His love and peace upon you.

  39. Even though I only attended Enka High School for one year, I remember Coach Parker well. One of my first days, we were loading busses to go home in front of the school and I had an asthma attack on the bus. My bus driver yelled for Parker and he came on the bus, picked me up, put me in his pickup and drove me to the hospital!! (He even used his radio to get a police escort for us!) He stayed with me until my mom could get to the hospital. This is the character of man that makes me proud to have known him. To the family, I am so sorry for your loss. He truly was a great example of selfless love.

I always loved to see him and talk to him.My dad had always had called him porky so in school I would call him that but not in front of everyone and he would tell me he was going to whoop me in front of everyone.
