Dale R. Moburg, 67, of Swannanoa, passed away June 13, 2013. He fought a 10-month battle with angiosarcoma, a rare cancer. Born in Chicago, Dale graduated from Maine East High School in Park Ridge, IL in 1964 where he met Jean Wilcox, his wife of 44 years. After graduating from Kansas State University in 1968, he joined Procter & Gamble, where he enjoyed a 32-year career in sales and marketing. He retired at 53, and he and Jean moved to the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, whose beauty brought him joy each day. He mentored countless people in his professional life as well as family and friends because he enjoyed "helping people succeed." Once in Asheville, Dale found a perfect fit with his interest in mentoring at Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC. He served as a board member and was a committed Big Brother to Alex Adams for 10 years. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Esther Chindblom Lang, James R. Moburg and John W. Lang Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jean Wilcox Moburg, and daughter Julia Moburg and her partner, Kristina Feliciano, of New York City, and daughter Kirstin Moburg-Davis and her husband, Alexander Brandt Moburg-Davis, of Asheville, and his precious grandchildren, Bergen, 3 ½ years and 11-month old twin boys, Dean and Sascha Moburg-Davis, who brought him great joy during his illness. He is also survived by his sisters: Kim Hanford and her husband, Bob; Donna Lison, and her husband, Phil; and Jill O'Connor and her husband, Kevin. Dale was the proud uncle of Tamara and David, Sarah and Joseph, Colleen and Caroline, and Matthew and Eirik. His ashes will be scattered in the mountains near his home. A private celebration of his life is planned. His family would like to thank Care Partners Hospice for all their loving care during his illness. It is Dale's wish that memorials be sent to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of WNC, 50 S. French Broad St. #213, Asheville, NC, 28801. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the Moburg family.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Oh! Our hearts are heavy, too. We feel for you and the family – this is so hard!

We will remember our good times together – even with the 40 year sabbatical. We remember that, right away, it was like we had been in touch for all those years. What a treat and what memories.

  2. It dearly saddens our hearts to hear about the loss of Mr Moburg. He was both the captain and anchor of a beautiful, now multigenerational family. Among those of us who knew him, however briefly, he leaves behind a strong (if intimidating!) impression, alighting on the virtues and pleasures of hard work, humor, open-mindedness,self-conviction and the selfless care for others. We have lit a candle in honor of Mr Moburg.

We wish you and your family the best possible in the coming days.

  3. Dear Jean and family,
I am so sorry to hear about Dale. Dale had a smile that was so big. The entire room brightened up when Dale came in. Dale did a lot of wonderful things in his life. I know that Big Brothers and Big Sisters was very important to him. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to know Dale. May perpetual light shine upon Dale and may he rest in eternal peace.

  4. Jean & Family, Dale was a great person, I loved being around him.
    Please accept our sincere condolences

  5. Dear Mrs. Moburg; I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear husband, Dale.
Ps 147:3 says ‘Jehovah is healing the brokenhearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots.’ We need comfort in many areas of life. One of the greatest causes of grief is the loss of a loved one in death, especially a beloved marriage mate or a child. In times of distress, we may need comfort that soothes our heart, our mind, our emotions, and both our physical and spiritual health. For example, consider the heart. God’s Word acknowledges that our heart can be “broken and crushed.” (Ps. 51:17) Even in severe situations, God can bring relief to a stricken heart if we pray to him in full faith and observe his commandments.

  6. Pease accept my condolences on your loss. May you find comfort in one of my favorite scriptures. Isaiah 41:10, 13…”Do not be afraid for I am with you. “For I, your God, am grasping your right hand, the One saying to you, ‘Do not be afraid, I myself will help you”.

  7. Jean,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time. I had the pleasure or working with Dale at P&G for more than 25 years and he was a great friend and an outstanding employee. He will be greatly missed.

  8. Dear Jean and Family,
Bev and I are truly sorry to hear of the passing of Dale. He was a very special person to both of us. I worked with and for Dale for 20+ years….I can say he was the best boss I ever had. Dale helped me grow with P&G and achieve levels I didn’t think I could achieve.

You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Love and peace…Bob & Bev Tackett
