Darlene Edmundson Briggs, 59, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville.

Darlene was born October 10, 1961 in Henderson County to the late Charles Spurgeon Junior and Mattie Jo Corn Edmundson. She grew up in Biltmore in a 1-bathroom house with her 5 siblings; She was resilient. She was a graduate of TC Roberson High School, class of 1979.

Over her 59 years, Darlene both gave and received an immeasurable amount of love. She embodied the word. She radiated acceptance. She was a listener and a forever friend to everyone she met. In 1988, she married her best friend, Steve, and together they made their very own all-star team with their kids, Sarah, Maggie, and Zachary. She was the oldest and coolest member of the AFBC youth group and loved her church family dearly. She was a 25 year survivor of breast cancer, and a 16 year survivor of a bilateral lung transplant. Darlene was an example of strength and courage to all who met her. The cherry on top of her beautiful life came in January of 2020 when she became a Granna to her sweet granddaughter, Willa Grae.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Robert Stephen Briggs; three children, Sarah Elizabeth Briggs Amoth (Chase), Mary Margaret Briggs, and Zachary Warren Briggs; five siblings, Barbara Edmundson, Chuck Edmundson (Dede), Betsy Harmon (Chuck), Charla Youngblood, and Kenny Edmundson (Jana); one granddaughter Wilhelmina Grae Amoth, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 1:00pm at Arden First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00am -1:00pm.

    Darlene’s life is a testimony of one who yielded herself to the plans and purposes of God. The people she loved and met are witnesses to this fact. We pray for you as you grieve, but rejoice in the knowledge Darlene is alive now more than ever. Her joys are forever!
