Dave Allen Nicholas, 61, of Candler, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at his home. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late John and Beatrice Nicholas. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Nicholas. Mr. Nicholas was retired from the Buncombe Co. School System. He was a mandolin builder, and a member of the Stringed Instrument Builders Association. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Patty Luellen Nicholas; daughters Carla Nicholas and Beatrice Nicholas; one grandchild; and a brother, Kurt Nicholas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Bent Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Bridges officiating. His family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bent Creek Baptist Church, c/o Dave Nicholas Memorial, 1554 Brevard Rd., Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  6. Dave and I were good friends, I met Dave in Texas, we became friends right away. We helped each other keep our cars running in that hot Texas heat. We had lots of good times there and in Orlando. I have and will miss you my friend. RIP

I realy enjoyed watchiing Dave build his furniture and his mandolins.I have some personal things Dave built for me and needless to say I will cherish them always.
