David Alan Honeycutt, 73, of Arden, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023.
David was born in Buncombe County to the late Lewis L. Honeycutt and Beryl Eileen Key Honeycutt.
He graduated from Clyde A Erwin High School, then joined the Unites States Navy. He proudly served our country in combat during the war in Vietnam and received multiple commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In August, 1970, David met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Diane Coleman and they were married on November 26th of that same year. Within weeks of meeting Pat, David took his parents to her workplace; they didn’t go in; he just pointed her out through a window and told them he was going to marry her.
In 1979 David answered God’s call to preach. Over the past 45 years he has provided countless people with spiritual leadership and has humbly served the Lord as pastor of Woodfin Baptist Church in Asheville, Abilene Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia and Skyland First Baptist Church in Skyland. He retired in 2019 and has since been a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church in Candler.
David enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with his family and friends. he was a true man of God, and will be long remembered for his love for God and God’s people, and his burden for lost souls. By now he has, no doubt, been privileged to hear his Lord say, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant”.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister-in-law: Sonya Honeycutt and his brother-in-law: Wallace Stewart.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Patricia Diane Honeycutt, sister Deborah Stewart, brothers: John Honeycutt and Mark Honeycutt, daughter: Kimberly Dawn Hollar (Ray), sons: David Nathaniel Honeycutt (Angie) and John Tolley (Jennifer); 8 grandchildren: Aaron Hollar, Paige Tipton, Paris Honeycutt, Reagan Tipton, Skylar Tipton, Katy Fetta, Blair Hollar and Brandon Hollar, 3 great grandchildren: Fallon Hollar, Beau Hollar, Jack Hollar and many nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 26 at Skyland First Baptist Church. His family will greet friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 28 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.

Pastor David was an inspiration especially to my son. They are rejoicing together now. I am so thankful for his ministry. Much love for the family.
Sorry for your families loss. Prayers for you all in the coming days for peace and comfort at this difficult time.
I’m so very sorry the family. Pastor David was so good to me. It’s because of him that I was finally able to just let go of my fears and really preach and after that there was a freedom in my preaching that had never been there before. I am forever grateful for that. I loved him very much and he will be missed!!
Thank you for your service young man, God bless you and yours rest in peace and, God’s speed.
I never will forget David as he was the person who led me to the Lord in 1990 at Woodfin Baptist Church .May Gods comfort be with all his family. Chad and Abby Barrett.

With deepest sympathy.
Brother David was an awesome friend and pastor to my parents while he served Abilene Baptist Church.
I just know he found mother and daddy and gave them big hugs when he awoke in heaven.
My prayers are with his family.

At least he had a good mother.
