David Brewer Sapp, who was born in Winston-Salem and grew up in Asheville, died November 14 at the age of 79. He demonstrated admirable courage, a positive attitude, and determination to get better throughout his prolonged hospitalization.
David was the son of the late L. J. (Jeff) Sapp and Lottie Brewer Sapp, who owned the beloved Towne House Bakery, where David worked as a teenager. He graduated from Lee Edwards High School and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. During college he traveled to Spain, where he immersed himself in Spanish language and culture, the first of many trips abroad.
After college, David joined the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired after 20 years. He then worked for General Electric, Lockheed Martin, and most recently for IBM as a project manager, which provided him the opportunity to pursue his passion for travel. He was a Tai chi master, loved to cook, hosted concerts and dinner parties, and was an active member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church.
David married the late Marelene Ormond Sapp and Janice Mancinelli Sapp. He is survived by his beloved companion of many years Mary Webster, daughters Lara Sapp and Catherine Sapp, Lara‘s daughter Evelyn Bissell, brother Stephen Sapp, sister Swa Sapp, Janice Mancinelli Sapp, and her daughter Jordan Suber.

Music will be provided by friends and family beginning at 1:00 p.m. The service will begin at 1:30 p.m. with an Air Force honor guard presenting military honors. A reception
at the church will follow. It will be a celebration David would approve!
