David Odis Richardson, 59, of Arden, died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Duke University Hospital. A native of Birmingham, AL, he was a son of the late Hubert Odis and Jackie Housh Richardson. He is survived by his step-mother, Julia Richardson of Birmingham, AL; his wife of seven years, Jan L. Richardson; three daughters, Rebecca Patton of Knoxville, TN, Pamela Koenig of Dallas, TX, and Jennifer Brown of Fredericksburg, VA; a step-daughter, Stacee Highsmith of Asheville; two step-sons, Todd Hadley of Concepcion, Chile and Ross Hadley of Washington, DC; five grandchildren; one sister, Melanie Miles of Boston, MA; one half-sister, Mary Spencer of Atlanta, GA; two step-brothers, Chip Richardson of Birmingham, AL and Andy Richardson of Lexington, KY; three nieces; five nephews and a special uncle, Gene Housh of Destin, FL. Before moving to Asheville in July of 2006, David retired as a corrections officer in Anchorage, AK. He was a member of Biltmore United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, a golfer and an avid Crimson Tide fan. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Biltmore United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ashley Crowder-Stanley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

  7. David was such a kind, considerate man. He was always eager to help anyone who needed something. He had a beautiful smile that lit up a room when he walked in. David has many friends in Anchorage, Alaska who are very sad to learn of his passing. He will always be remembered.

  8. David always seemed like such a genuinely good person to me. He graciously shared his home with friends on numerous occassions and seemed to truly welcome strangers into his home. I know that Jan will miss him terribly. We were so sorry to see them leave Alaska!

  10. It\\\’s always sad when young people pass and especially after working and retiring and not living long enough to really enjoy what they spent years working for. There always seemed to be a sense of innocence about Dave. I\\\’m sure you\\\’ll miss him very much.
