Deborah Anne Adams Whitehurst, 61, of Swannanoa, died Saturday, June 20, 2015, after a long valiant battle with cancer. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Portsmouth, VA, she was a daughter of the late James and Ethel McPherson Adams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hilery Thomas Whitehurst, Jr, in October 2011.
Mrs. Whitehurst volunteered as a driver for the Road to Recovery program transporting cancer patients to treatment appointments. She worked as a pharmacy technician for the Buncombe County Health Department.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Whitehurst and wife Ann of Apex, and Joshua Whitehurst and wife Tara of Weaverville; grandchildren, Tyler Whitehurst, Emily Whitehurst, Tristan Whitehurst, and Jacob Morgan; and a sister, Mary Adams Paschall of Virginia Beach, VA.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Rd.
Burial will be held at a later date at Virginia Beach, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Bldg. 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
My thoughts are with Josh and his family. Someone who generated so much love and support must have been a wonderful person.

My heart is broken with the sad news of the passing of my dear and oldest friend, Debbie and I have known each other since the 6th grade and she was my maid of honor and I was hers. I will miss you my sweet friend. I love you to the moon and back!
