Hendersonville- Deborah “Debbie” Diane Whitaker, 68, of Hendersonville, went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of Elsie Bradley Ponders of Asheville and of the late William Edward Ponders.

In addition to her mother, Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Max Henry Whitaker; one daughter, Julie Haines (Eric) of Edneyville; one sister, Brenda Hancock (Tom) of Candler as well as two granddaughters, Natalie and Sydney Corn.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 28, 2022 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Her family will receive friends Friday from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, Debbie’s family graciously asks that you consider making a contribution in her memory to either the American Kidney Fund (kidneyfund.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org.).

  4. At this moment my heart is broken, I know that it will pass. You have always been here to talk to whenever I needed it. You have always been the glue to our family, I know that you are looking over us and helping us in our life’s even though we can’t see it. This is the hardest part of life but knowing that I have another angel on my shoulder keeps me smiling. This was always just a pit stop to something better, there is never a goodbye it’s see you later. I will always love you Nana.
