Born in: Buncombe Co., NC
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Delilah “Lila” “Dee” Stanberry, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Asheville on July 17, 2021.

Lila was an active member of Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her church community, particularly the small children she taught in Sunday School, and often demonstrated that love by cooking and baking for them. No one could get enough of “Miss Dee’s” cakes! Lila also showed her creativity and generosity by making afghans for family and friends. Above all, Lila enjoyed spending time with those she loved.

Lila was predeceased by her parents, Dewey Stamey and Gertrude Stamey Kirstein; her husband, James T. Stanberry; her siblings, Yvonne Cordell and Jones Stamey; and her daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Walter Weiss.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Monteath; her grandchildren, Tom (Stephanie) George, Mark (Polly) George, and Matt (Anne) Weiss; her great-grandchildren, Chelsea (Chad) Griffith, Alex George (and their mother Tanya (Danny) Pittson), Joshua George, and Jaime George; and her great-great-grandchild, Tag Griffith. She is also survived by multiple generations of very special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Andrews for his years of support for Lila and the CarePartners Hospice team, who provided excellent care during the last months of Lila’s life. A very special thank you also to Lila’s dear friend, Dalia Ibarra, who helped so much this past year.

A memorial service will be held in Lila’s honor on Saturday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church, 283 Shelburne Rd., Asheville, NC 28806, with Rev. Daniel Cason and Rev. Danny Gasperson officiating.

Memorial donations can be made to Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church, PO Box 6808, Asheville, NC 28816.
