Denis Edward Quinlan

Denis Edward Quinlan, 78, of Candler, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, at his home. Mr. Quinlan was born in Chicago, IL and was a son of the late Timothy Edward Quinlan and Gertrude Vervurg Quinlan. As a health care administrator, he had worked with hospitals in Louisville, Miami and Milwaukee before moving to Buncombe County. He was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and helped formulate the Parish Pastoral Council Plan. He also worked with the parish directory and stewardship program and at St. Joan of Arc's new facility in Candler he aided in the construction of the Serenity Columbarium and the hand fabricated main church doors. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nina T. Quinlan; a daughter, Jean Marie Johnson (and her husband, Wayne Johnson); a son, Timothy Edward Quinlan (and his wife, Jennifer Biesel Quinlan); grandchildren, Madeline Audrey Quinlan and Avelyn Rain Johnson; step-children Keith O'Brien (Kathy), Joseph O'Brien (Julie), and Janice O'Brien (Karen Kerr); 7 step-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Edward J. Sheridan at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment will be Thursday, January 2, at Calvary Cemetery, Louisville, KY. His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 768 Asbury Road, Candler, NC 28715, or to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Asheville, NC 28801.
