Dennie William Penland, 92, of Candler, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009.
Mr. Penland was born in Burnsville and was a son of the late Lossie and Mallie Roland Penland. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Eugene Penland; his brothers, Walser, Grier, Hubert and Euett Penland and sisters, Dell Penland and Charlene Blankenship. A former wholesale produce salesman, he was a member at Montmorenci United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Truscott Penland; three daughters, Barbara Bartlett and husband Bill of Asheville, Dawn Miller and husband Danny of Candler and Denise Parlier and husband Greg of Asheville; one son, Richard Penland and wife Shelley of Sandpoint, ID; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Montmorenci United Methodist Church with the Rev. A. Franklin Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

I want to say how much i enjoyed taking care of and being friends with Dennie, he was a very interesting man, he was a great man. i will never forget all the time we spent together and he will be in my thoughts always.
Enjoyed talking with Mr. Penland when I went to visit with Our dad (R. G. Moss) at Pisgah Nursing Home. He was such a nice man and his family was too. You all are in our thoughts and our prayers and know that our dads are once together again in the presence of their father in heaven. Steve Moss and family
