Dennie William Penland, 92, of Candler, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Mr. Penland was born in Burnsville and was a son of the late Lossie and Mallie Roland Penland. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Eugene Penland; his brothers, Walser, Grier, Hubert and Euett Penland and sisters, Dell Penland and Charlene Blankenship. A former wholesale produce salesman, he was a member at Montmorenci United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Truscott Penland; three daughters, Barbara Bartlett and husband Bill of Asheville, Dawn Miller and husband Danny of Candler and Denise Parlier and husband Greg of Asheville; one son, Richard Penland and wife Shelley of Sandpoint, ID; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Montmorenci United Methodist Church with the Rev. A. Franklin Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.   1. I want to say how much i enjoyed taking care of and being friends with Dennie, he was a very interesting man, he was a great man. i will never forget all the time we spent together and he will be in my thoughts always.

  2. Enjoyed talking with Mr. Penland when I went to visit with Our dad (R. G. Moss) at Pisgah Nursing Home. He was such a nice man and his family was too.
