Dennis Venson Woody, 75, of 137 Gouges Branch Road, Leicester, died Saturday, December 13, 2003, at his home. Mr. Woody was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late B.E. and Narmie King Woody. He was also preceded in death by his wife Hazel Miller Woody who died in 2000 and by three brothers, Owen, Ira P. and Richard Woody. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a retired livestock dealer, farmer and real estate broker. He was retired from Leicester Real Estate Company and was an active member of the VFW Post 891. He is survived by one daughter, Gayna W. Edmonds and her husband Gary of Leicester; one son, Michael E. Woody, his fiancee Rebecca Breese and her son Christian Breese of Leicester; two granddaughters, Kindall Denise Edmonds and Katelyn Paige Edmonds of Leicester; one sister Ilar Prockiw and her husband Fred of Chester Springs, PA; one brother U.R. Woody and his wife Geneva of Leicester; several nieces and nephews and special friends Neal and Peggy Woody of Leicester, Clara Bailey of Arden, and Sue McMannus of Jonesborough, TN. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Townsend officiating. Burial will be at Bell United Methodist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Asheville Specialty Hospital and to the IV Team of Mission/St. Joseph Hospital.
