Dian Latshaw Sutton, 89, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Givens Health Center, Asheville, NC, following a short illness. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Elma Dubson Latshaw and Ray Eisenberg Latshaw and raised in Royersford, PA. She met her husband, Ray Sutton, while attending Washington College in Chestertown, MD and they married in 1951. Moving to Columbia, SC in 1962, Dian taught psychology at Dentsville High School and Spring Valley High School for 25 years, and loved every minute of teaching and her relationships with her students. She and Ray were avid campers and enjoyed spending winters with friends in Florida. She was a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church and enjoyed circle life. They moved to the Asheville, NC area in 2006 to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Rene’ Sutton, and their family. In addition to her parents, Dian was also pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Franklin Sutton, and son, Shaw Bruce Sutton. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Miller Sutton and daughter-in-law, Rene’ Gasque Sutton, grandson, Matthew Gasque Sutton, (Caroline) and granddaughter, Aimee Sutton Crouch, (Justin). She also enjoyed her great-grandchildren Grayson and Marin Sutton and Brooks and Camden Crouch. A private family service is planned at Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. Memorials may be made to the church in memory of Dian and Ray Sutton, Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  1. Dear Kenneth and Rene’. We are so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was the room-mate to my mother-in-law K.Lee Wright. We spoke with her often, and she was glad to share stories of the pictures in her room, and the get togethers there at Givens Health Care. Her face would light up when I mentioned her hair and that it made her look a few years younger. Our prayers are with you and your family.
