Dock Lance

James 'Dock' Lance, 83, of 780 Justice Ridge Rd.,
Candler, died Tuesday, January 12, 1999. He had been a
resident at The Black Mountain Center for the last 4 years.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County he was the son
of the late A.P. and Addie Lance. Dock was an avid
outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. He loved animals
and was a teller of tall tales. He worked 20 years at the
American Enka Plant and after leaving there he retired with
12 years of service with the Asheville Water Department. He
was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Hazel
Parker Lance; two sons Tom and Jim Lance; a brother Clay
Lance all of Candler; two grandsons, three granddaughters,
two great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday in the Patton
Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend's
Dr. Virgil Holloway and G.W. Jameson officiating. Burial will
follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with pallbearers being
Keith Lance, Chip Lance, David Plemmons, Nikki Setzler,
Sean Smith, Ruel Austin, Roger Lance and Ronnie Lowery.
Dock's family will receive friends 7-8:30 Thursday at the
funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, 3 Louisiana Ave., Asheville, NC
28806.

Black Mountain Center.
