Donald Nalle Payne

Donald Nalle Payne, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the Extended Care Facility of the VA Hospital. Mr. Payne was born in Mecklenburg County and after serving in the US Navy four years during the Korean Conflict he attended Charlotte College and the University of NC at Chapel Hill. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy Almond Payne; a son Donald N. Payne Jr. of Columbia, MD; a sisters, Eleanor Panelli-Bigay of Macon, GA, Josephine Aiken of Atlanta, GA; several nieces, nephews and a host of Angel Caregivers at the VA Nursing Center in Asheville. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, at 10:30 am in the sanctuary of The First Baptist Church, Oak Street, where he was a member. Rev. Gail Colter will officiate and his family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration Benevolent Fund, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC 28805 or to the NC Baptist Home, 213 Richmond Hill Dr., Asheville, NC 28806.
