Asheville/Candler – Donald Walker Shuman, Jr., 82, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022.
Mr. Shuman was born December 17, 1939, in Raleigh NC, to the late Elizabeth Barkalow Shuman and Donald Walker Shuman, Sr. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College and of UNC-Charlotte and served our country with the US Navy. His primary career was as a Computer Programmer/Analyst in telecommunications and after retirement from that, he enjoyed being a driver for Young Transportation Co.
Mr. Shuman was an active member of First Baptist Church – Asheville for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Murray Skillman; daughter, Elizabeth R. Shuman of Fairview NC; son, Thomas P.R. Shuman of Denver, CO.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church, Asheville, with the Rev. Leah Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Academy for the Arts at First Baptist Church, 5 Oak Street, Asheville NC 28801 or a charity of your choice.

Nancy I am so very sorry to read about Don’s passing. I have so enjoyed my time with him over the past few years, he quickly became one of my favorite patients. I will be praying for you all.
Nancy, my deepest sympathy for the passing of Don. I’ll always cherish the memories together in our Sunday School class, and our class outings in which he got us to and from with safe transportation. He was always admired as a giving person. Always lifting a helping.
