Asheville ~ Donna Roberts Cannady, 59, of Asheville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at her residence. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of Frances Baldwin Roberts of Asheville and of the late Donald Roberts. In addition to her mother, she is survived by three daughters, Jill Banks, of Hilton Head, SC, Jessica Cannady of Wilmington, NC and Melissa Cannady of Savannah, GA; one son, Russell Banks and his wife, Justine, of Asheville; three sisters, Marcia Banner and Patricia Crenshaw, both of Asheville and Tracy Barton of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, J.R., Frankie, Sawyer and Lacie Banks, as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with Father Brent Norris officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00-3:00 PM on Sunday. Interment will follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, PO Box 8195, Asheville, NC, 28814. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  4. I know Donna only through her daughter the wonderful Jill Banks. I know that anyone who raised this wonderful young woman had to be a fine person. We met Jill’s family on Defuskie Island for a weekend get away years ago. I remember Jill’s two young sisters and my two children enjoying the wondeful island life. It was a peaceful, beautiful place. I’m glad to have shared this time with the family. I hope many memories such as this will bring you peace and some smiles as you experience the very difficult transition to life with Mom as your newest guardian angels! Connie Jacobs

  7. I knew Donna in high school. She was always cheerful and fun to be around. We lost touch with each other, but I never forgot her. I ofter wondered what happened to her and her brother Tom. I hope life was good to her. I am so sad to know she is gone.
