Donnie Jones Cox, 86, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 after a brief illness.
A lifelong Buncombe County native and resident, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Arthur Lloyd Cox, her parents Emory Dillard and Saphronia Hensley Jones. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Jones Cox and Mary Louise Jones and Brothers Mack, Louis, Alvin, Larry and Lynn Jones.
Donnie is survived by her son Arthur Stephen Cox (Susan) of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and daughter Janet Cox Pressley of Asheville.
Grandnana is survived by three grandchildren: grandson Arthur Stephen Cox II (Suzanne) and children Arthur Stephen III, Brandon and Robin Victoria of Los Alamos, New Mexico and grandson Sean Pressley (Stayce) and children Brittany and Summer Pressley of Asheville and granddaughter Kelli Pressley Raymer (David) and children Elijah and Madyson, also of Asheville.
As a couple, Donnie and Arthur were inseparable and loved to sing, square dance, play cards, travel and make a great batch of black walnut fudge. Donnie was always in the kitchen making wonderful meals and her delicious strawberry cake will be missed.
She was a lifelong Baptist and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Erwin Hills.
Graveside services will be held at Green Hills Cemetery on New Leicester Highway at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday September 5, 2009, with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating.
Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, Elizabeth House, 531 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
