Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Leonard, Karrie and Donna, You were our neighbors for several years. I will never forget Kay. She was always ready to ‘lend a hand’? if one needed anything. She was a strong person and a good neighbor. Even after all these years I can still hear her laugh and see that smile. And, she could discipline those neighborhood kids when necessary (it was allowed back in the day, for which I am grateful). What a good time it was. My sincere condolences to all of you; life will be different without her. May the Lord bless you and your memories be extra sweet. Love, Priscilla Morgan

  2. My sympathy goes out to the family of this thoughtful and caring neighbor. May you find peace and comfort through God’s love.

  3. After reading about Dora Kay, my sister can remember Murriel Shope coming to Bent Creek to visit with Milam and Lenora Calhoun who are also from Robbinsville. Our Grandparents , natives of Graham County, were Virgil and Hattie Calhoun. I think Murriel was a cousin to the Calhoun’s. And so, I would like to express my condolences to your family. May God give you peace and also may you and yours share many wonderful memories.

    • Portia,
I was looking back over Mother’s listing on the Groce Funeral Home site. My Grandmother Murriel Shope Buchanan was a first cousin to Milam and Lenora. Mother would go and visit them and Roy when they lived at Bent Creek. We also would take Murriel to Murrels Inlet to visit with them and Uncle Virgil. Virgil was a brother to Murriel’s mother Hettie Calhoun Shope. Hettie died when Murriel was only 8 years old and she then became very close to her Uncle Virgil and loved him dearly as we all did.
