Doris Green Barnes, 80, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Aston Park Health Care Center.
Born in Asheville on April 29, 1938, Mrs. Barnes was a daughter of the late Grady and Virgie Ivy Netherton Green. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Helen Ball (Weldon), Blanche Hawkins (Leonard), Mildred Graham (Junior) and Ruth Green, and brother, Grady Green, Jr. (Ann Vivian), and niece Carol Hawkins Robbins.
Mrs. Barnes worked as a dental office manager for a number of years and retired from the Asheville Veterans Administration Hospital. She was a member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church. She was a member and former secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 2.
A talented craftsperson, she was a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and had participated in many craft shows through the years. She was chosen to supply ornaments for President and Mrs. Reagan's White House Christmas Tree.
Surviving are a niece, Brenda Graham and nephews, Bobby Hawkins (Edna), Grady Hawkins (Doris), Donnie Ball (the late Martha), Dean Ball (Angie), and Jeffery Green.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Charlie Sams officiating.
Her family will greet friends at the cemetery.
