Doris Mae Grant Ray, 89, of Asheville, died Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of McAdenville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Rev. D.P. and Sallie McClellan Grant. She was also preceded in death by 7 sisters and 1 brother. Mrs. Ray was a charter member of East Asheville United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and Sunday school teacher. She loved her church, and lived a Godly and full life. Mrs. Ray had a dedicated nursing career, retiring from the Charles George VA Medical Center. She loved cardinals and collected cardinal figurines. She will be remembered as a thoughtful friend to everyone. Mrs. Ray is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Paul Ray; sisters Sally Andreotta of Asheville and Lucille Eagle of Salisbury; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at East Asheville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Anna Lee Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Rd.
