Doris Merrill Austin, 60, of 27 Medford Road, Candler, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 5, 2000, after a brief stay at the Hospice Solace Center.
Mrs. Austin was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Virgil B. and Edythe Ballard Merrill, Jr. She was married to Thomas B. Austin, Sr.
who died in 1976, and she was a retired self-employed upholsterer. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Debra Lee Austin and two sons, Thomas B. Austin, Jr. and David C. Austin, all of Candler; and six grandchildren, Jade, Adam and
Justin Austin, Robert King, Jr., Carol Roberts, and Heather Marshall.
Funeral services will be 4:30 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
