Doris Pace Elliott, 94, went to be with her one true Valentine, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born December 31, 1929, in Hendersonville, NC, to William “Bill” and Lavada Jackson Pace. She was their only daughter, and they loved her dearly. Doris enjoyed reminiscing on her childhood and telling stories of what life was like growing up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris graduated from Sand Hill High School in 1949, where she enjoyed playing girls varsity basketball.

Doris married James M. Elliott on September 18, 1948. They gave birth to their only child, Teresa Elliott Kennedy, on July 16, 1959. James went to be with the Lord on August 29, 1996.

Doris spent most of her time as a housewife and also loved helping those in need and volunteering in her community. She worked as a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 20 years.

Doris married Richard E. McKinney on January 21, 2012. Doris gained four loving step-daughters: Fay Cameron (Don Cameron), Millie Worley (Keith Worley), Yvonne Hogsed (preceded in death by Darrell Hogsed), and Sheila Mann (George Mann). Richard went to be with the Lord in 2021 after almost nine years of marriage.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Teresa Kennedy (Tom Kennedy); her two grandchildren, Tracy Hanrahan (Brian Hanrahan), and Brandon Chandler (Ashley Chandler); her 10 great-grandchildren, Bryson Hanrahan, Katie Hanrahan, Kyle Sprinkle, Colton Chandler, Taylor Chandler, Briley Carr, Makenzie Carr, Tucker Chandler, Elliott Chandler, and Elsie Jane Chandler; and her best friend and cousin, Genelle Jackson.

Doris was loved very much by her family and will be dearly missed.

Guestbook

  1. Doris was a wonderful lady and a great neighbor. We were blessed to have known her and her family. She will be missed 🙏🙏

  2. Tracy, Teresa, & family, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know your hearts are hurting, and I pray for the Lord’s peace to fill that hurt. Ninety-four years is a lot of blessed years. Please know that I am praying now and, in the days to come for all of you. As Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mom.”

  3. Dear Family,
I’ve known and Loved Doris for many years! She was the salt of the earth! May God Bless and keep you In His loving arms! She will be missed here on earth and so welcomed in Heaven!!
    With Deepest Sympathy and Love,
    Lilly Elliott Smith

  4. Dear Family, I am so sorry that Doris has left you here, but I know that she is rejoicing in the presence of Jesus. Dick McKinney was a very dear friend to me and my late hubby, Alvin Morgan (who as Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Brevard). We met Doris many years ago as they were good friends at the time. I remember seeing her many times and she was always so sweet and such a lovely person to know. Many people have sweet memories of her as do I. May the Lord give each of your sweet peace and many loving memories in the day ahead. Thinking about you today, Priscilla Morgan
