Asheville~ Dorothy "Dot" Hunter Dillard, 82, went to be with Jesus Monday, October 15, 2012. Dot was born in Yancey County, N.C. and was daughter of the late J.C and Ethel Hunter. She attended Warren Wilson College where she met Ed, her husband of 62 years. She is survived by her husband, Ed Dillard; three sons, Eddie Dillard and his wife, Pam of Burke, VA, Dave Dillard and his wife, Karen of Charlotte, NC, and Mark Dillard and his friend Donna Mastin of Statesville, NC; a daughter, Dianne Crawford and her husband, Scott of Asheville, NC; ten grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer), Allison (Paul), Brandon (Shannon), Carla (Greg), Ryan, Brian, Chloe, Clayton, Brad and Sara; nine great-grandchildren, Cole, Ava, Sophie, Bryce, Cora, Ryan, Reese, Riley, and Adeline. Dot is also survived by a sister, Sue McCurry of Lenoir, NC and a brother, Cecil Hunter of Douglasville, GA. Dot was a long time member of Biltmore Baptist Church. She worked for many years in child care and enjoyed her Tuesday Morning Prayer Group. Dot was an avid gardener and loved entertaining in her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Reverends Sam McLamb and Harold Savell officiating. A private committal service will be held for family at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 18th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Love A Child, Inc. (an orphanage in Haiti) 12411 Commerce Lakes Drive Fort Myers, FL 33913 and Solace at Care Partners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road is assisting the family.

    I have so many memories of being at your house and going on vacations (so many..I cant count)and even trips to Bryson City! My memory of Mrs. Dillard is her infectous laugh and her love of people and conversation..always entertaining and inviting people to her home..she was an awesome mom..her most favorite saying I remember is..’day law’ and then her laugh!

I was blessed by her friendship, her faithfulness to her Lord and her sharing of her talents for Him which has blessed many others. Tuesdays will always be ‘Dot’s Day’ as the prayer group she was so faithful to host each week. I loved her.
