Dorothy Jean Bryant, 90, most recently of Leicester, NC, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017. Mrs. Byant was born June 23, 1926, in Rover, AR, to the late Franz and Grace Norman Gillum. She grew up in Conway, AR where she graduated from Conway High School and the University of Central Arkansas. After teaching school for two years she attended Peabody Library School in Nashville, TN, where she met her husband, Charles Reed Bryant, who later died in 1998. Dorothy worked in libraries in Arkansas, Tennessee, Maryland and North Carolina. She and Charles lived in the Asheville, NC area from 1983. She was a member of the Unitarian Church of Asheville, the Old Buncombe Co. Genealogy Society, the Friends of Leicester Library, the Thomas Wolfe Society, and the Faulkner County, AR Historical Society. She is survived by her sister, Jo Jacobs of Little Rock, AR; nieces and nephews, Connie Phillips (Jim), Keith Woodruff (Robin), Caryl Watson (David), and LeAnn Jacobs; and a special friend Argylle K. Wells. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Woodruff. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at Beulah Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ricky Wolfe officiating. Private burial will be at Hunts Chapel Cemetery, Rover, AR. Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 929 N. Turkey Creek Rd., Leicester NC 28748.
