Dorothy Mae Melton

Dorothy Mae Rhodes Melton, 86, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Mission Hospital. Mrs. Melton was born in Haywood County to the late Walter and Lucille Trull Rhodes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Frank” Melton, Sr.; her brothers, Bill Rhodes, Dick Rhodes and Jerry Rhodes and step-brothers, Glen and Guy Rhodes. Dorothy was a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church. She was formerly employed with Buncombe County Schools as a food nutritionist until she began raising children and grandchildren. She loved church gatherings and especially family gatherings. She also enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, cooking, and sharing her recipes. She is survived by her children Thomas "Tommy" Melton and his wife, Patricia, of Northport, Florida, William "Bill" Melton, Jr. and his wife Debbie, of Asheville and a daughter, Cathy Fisher and her husband, Mark, of Arden; a sister, Betty Rhodes Taylor and her husband, Frank of Canton; three grandchildren, Tyler Melton, Marlana Bryson and her husband, Derek and Steven Fisher; two great grandchildren, Christina and Coilton; several nieces and nephews and dear friends, Kevin, Taryn, and Mallory. A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday, November 11, 2017 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by Rev. Roger Rearden. Interment will follow in Averys Creek Methodist Church Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 until 1:00 pm, prior to the service at the funeral home.
