Dorothy McFarlin "Dot" Barr, 85, of 62 Belmont Ave., Asheville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Aston Park Health Care Center. An Asheville native, Mrs. Barr was a daughter of the late Joseph Peter and annie Lee Brown McFarlin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wendell P. Barr, who died in 1995. She had retired from the Asheville Citizen-Times, where she worked as payroll supervisor. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Mrs. Barr is survived by her daughter, Diane O'Connor and husband Dennis, of Columbia, SC; son, David W. Barr and wife Diana, of Candler; and grandchildren, Katie O'Connor, of Rock Hill, SC, Mary O'Connor, of Columbia, SC, and Jonathan Barr, of Asheville. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. John M. Pagel officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church Building Fund, 768 Asbury Rd., Candler, NC 28715. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.
