Dr. Paul David Goff

Dr. David Goff, beloved husband and father, peacefully passed away on June 4, 2024, at the age of 85.

David was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia in 1938 to the late Paul Goff and Kathleen Lewis Goff. David and his parents soon after moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where David spent his childhood. After earning a degree in Psychology at Penn State University, David lived in Europe for two years. In Sweden, he met the love of his life, Anna-Karin Smedmark, whom he wed in 1967 and started a family. After the birth of their son, Michael, the young family moved back to the States for David to complete his Masters and PhD in Psychology at Michigan State University. David worked as a research psychologist in Detroit, MI and later, in Iowa City, IA. After the birth of their daughter, Annika, David and his family moved to Salisbury, NC, where David worked as a neuropsychologist for the VA Hospital for over 20 years until his retirement in 1996. In 2017, David and Anna-Karin moved to Asheville, to live closer to their daughter, Annika.

David was a proficient pianist, played the ukulele, slow-grilled the perfect filet mignons, and loved his family above all else. David taught both of his children to drive a stick shift, managed to find the ‘perfect’ Christmas tree year after year, made the smoothest chocolate fudge and loved to watch and listen to a rainstorm.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Anna-Karin; his son, Michael D. Goff (Cheryl), PA; grandson, Andrew Mekebak (Hailey), GA; great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Athena; daughter, Annika M. Brock (Elaine Potter), Asheville, NC, and grandchildren, William Potter and Nathaniel Potter; and aunt Lavaughn Edwards, OH. David is preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Donald Little.
