What an honor it truly was to not have only known you Richard, but to have the privilege of being a personal caregiver to you over the last few years. From Day 1, you made me feel welcomed and valued. You filled the apartment with excitement, laughter and chaos, I can’t express how much you are missed already.
There are so many moments that have flooded my mind over the last couple days, ones of fun, hectic ones and of seriousness, but all of them instantly bring a smile. I know, you’ll laugh up there when you’re reminded a few, like the times you’d be bored lying in bed and would holler “YO” to us caregivers or call us out by name and demand your freedom! Once in the wheelchair our adventures would begin, often with no choice, becoming your partners in crime. The way you’d often whisper the question “why are there so many old people walking around this joint” during our walks around the hallways of Givens. And only you could be in the hospital in a true state of emergency and ask “What’s for dinner” all while the doctor/nurses panic, putting the crash cart by your doorway in a worry that at any moment they will be starting CPR on you. Your stubbornness to refuse to eat on some days unless you could have waffles both for breakfast and dinner. After firing Angie & myself, you’d turn right around and ask us to share the gossip we knew. Grading our every move.
Ahhh Richard I could go on and on for days sharing memories of you but I can actually hear you now telling me to get to the damn point, so I will.
I miss you Boss!
Thumbs up!
A+
I love you!
Love your Nimrod #1 Lisa
As a family member, this is so wonderful to read! Thank you for sharing your experiences with Richard and the very essence of his intellect, humor, and love of adventure. Thank you for your care and love of him.
He was a great professor. Prayers for his family and friends.
Happy that he was part of my life.
I met Mr Schroeder in the 70’s when he brought his VW bug to me for service. He was an interesting man
and he liked to talk about his adventures. I asked him for a hat from Russia and he got me one which I still wear.
He brought his VW’s to me for many years until he retired. I admired Richard as a great person.
