E. Arden Kinckiner

E. Arden "Art" Kinckiner, 87, of Asheville NC, and formerly of New Bern, NC, died on December 14, 2013 at Givens Health Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born and raised in Pottstown, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Helen and J. Roy Kinckiner. He was preceded in death by sisters Isabelle and Lois, and brothers, William and George. Art is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis Ramsey Kinckiner, two children, son Keith Kinckiner and wife Billinda of Flatwoods, Kentucky and daughter Kathy Kinckiner Bailey and husband Mark of Brevard, North Carolina. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Ryan and Scott Bailey, and Brad and Stacey Kinckiner. He is also survived by brother, Roy and sister, Elsie Wert. Art graduated from Pottstown High School and later the U.S. Maritime Service Radio School, Staten Island, New York receiving his commission as a Warrant Officer. He served as ship's radio operator in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1945-1947. He also served as ship's radio officer for the marine division of Sun Oil Company and later went on to electronic field servicing for Sun Oil. Art retired in 1990 from Illinois Institute Technical Research Institute (IITRI) Annapolis, Maryland as technical editor. Prior to that, he served as a technical editor for ILC Industries of Dover, Delaware during the years of space suit production for the Apollo missions. Art and Phyllis retired to New Bern in 1991 where he enjoyed playing golf with family and friends at River Bend Golf and Country Club. He played clarinet and saxophone throughout his lifetime, and especially enjoyed playing in the Craven Community Concert Band. He was a member of Garber United Methodist Church. Art and Phyllis moved to Givens Estates in early 2013. A memorial service will be held at Norma F. Pulliam Chapel at Givens Estates on December 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held immediately following the service at Asbury Commons Living Room. Memorial contributions may be made to Givens Estates Resident Assistance Ministry (2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803), or a charity of your choice.
