Earl Baxter Hampton, 85, of Asheville, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Hampton was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Bert and Alice Baxter Hampton.  He was the retired co-owner and operator of Asheville Tree Service and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church.  An active leader of Boy Scouts, he lead four different troops at the same period.  In 1973, he was presented Scouting’s Silver Beaver Award for services.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Shook Hampton of the home;
his daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Howard Fred Ford of Nashville, TN, and their three children, Lynn and Hugh Milfred Parker of Winston-Salem and their two sons, and Sylvia and Philip Gerald Clark of Savannah, GA, and their two children, and by nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1:30 pm Saturday at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Philip Gerald Clark officiating.Groce Funeral  Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
